City of Piperton Building Official, Tommie Johnson, announced his retirement, effective March 31st, after nearly 10 years of service to the citizens of Piperton and local building community. Working in a challenging regulatory environment, Tommie was known for being fair and consistent in his decision making and was regarded as a knowledgeable and competent building professional. During his tenure, Tommie grew the Building Department to a staff of four and oversaw a surge in residential, commercial and industrial building activity in the City, including the construction of the world headquarters for Pyramex and Power & Tel. Perhaps Tommie’s greatest legacy, however, was his mentorship and taking a personal interest in his staff’s professional development. The City of Piperton is certainly indebted to Tommie and he will be greatly missed.
Tommie is succeeded by Elizabeth Reed. Elizabeth is a longtime Tennessee resident and graduate of the University of Memphis. Elizabeth joined the Building Department in 2016, becoming the City’s first certified Permit Technician in September of 2019. Elizabeth became a certified inspector in February 2020, and began inspecting for Piperton in July of the same year. She has subsequently obtained several additional professional building credentials, and is now certified as a building, plumbing, and mechanical inspector for both residential and commercial construction. Welcome Elizabeth!
