[ARCHIVED] Decentralized Sewer Rate Increase

Dear City of Piperton Customer,

This notice is to inform you of the new rates for Decentralized Sewer Service that became effective January 1, 2018 and will be implemented with the February billing period.

  • Residential - Per City Ordinance 287-17, decentralized sewer rates for residential service were increased by $5.00 from $38.75/monthly to $43.75/monthly.
  • Commercial - Per City Ordinance 285-17, decentralized sewer rates for commercial service were increased from $75.00 (base rate plus $5.00 per 1000 gallons) to $84.75 (base rate plus $5.65 per 1000 gallons).
  • Commercial (Gin Building Office Tenants) - Per City Ordinance 285-17, decentralized sewer rates for commercial service were increased from $75.00 (base rate plus $5.00 per 1000 gallons) to $84.75 (base rate plus $5.65 per 1000 gallons). On a pro rata basis, rates for commercial decentralized sewer service for each office suite will increase by $1.63 from $12.50/monthly to $14.13/monthly.

This rate increase, recommended by a comprehensive utility rate study commissioned by the City last summer, will help to ensure that the City remains in compliance with the state of Tennessee's capital reserve requirements for funding the eventual replacement of sewer infrastructure, including collection lines, on-site pumps, and treatment plant components.

If you have any questions about the rate changes, please contact the Utility Department at (901) 853-4830 x1.

Sincerely,

Terry Parker, Public Works/Utility Director
